Irena Götzová graduated at the University of Economics in Prague, in international relations and diplomacy. Since 2001 she has served as a Czech diplomat at various positions and gained broad knowledge and vast experience in EU external relations and Western Balkans. Before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, she worked with the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Serbia and Kosovo.
For the last two years, Irena Götzová has been the Deputy Head of Czech Embassy to Hungary. Previously she led the Department of external relations at the Permanent Representation to the EU or served in Bosnia and Herzegovina as the Deputy Head of the Embassy. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Prague, she was Head of Section for South-Eastern Europe or a counsellor for Deputy Minister for Europe with whom her portfolio covered bilateral relations with all European countries and the regional cooperation in Central Europe
